Table 1 - Results for Testing using the AEISG Code of Practice:
Table 2 - Results for Testing using the QMR Reactive Ground Test:
Prior to testing as per the AEISG Code of Practice each sample was assessed for reactivity risk based on pH, carbonate and amount of reactive sulphide using the QMR Reactive Ground Test (refer to Table 1 and Table 2 for results of both tests). Of the 7 sample 4 had greater than trace reactive sulphide and were acidic as described in Table 2. No samples contained carbonates that will buffer a reaction with nitrates. Samples SXGC81952, SXGC81953, MRK0001599 and MRK0001625 tested as reactive when tested as per the AEISG Code of Practice due to no inhibited host material and being acidic.
Table 3 – Samples containing more than traced reactive sulphide:
Conclusion:
The AIESG test results identified SXGC81952, SXGC81953, MRK0001599 and MRK0001625 as reactive and all other samples as not reactive. The AEISG test involves an addition of an acidic weathering agent. In the case of of samples SXGC81952, SXGC81953, MRK0001599 and MRK0001625 the weathering agent caused the pH to drop from 2 which resulted in a reaction between the sulphide and nitrates because there was no or carbonates to buffer an acidic reaction.
