Project

Testing of samples for reactivity with ammonium nitrate as AEISG Code of Practice “Elevated Temperature and Reactive Ground” Appendix 2: Isothermal Reactive Ground Test

Conducted For - Hanwha (HMS)
Requested By - Stuart Parsons
Report Number - GC2-8-17 (Samples 1,2,3 and ammonium nitrate control sample)
Written By - Dr G. Cavanough
Date - 6th August, 2017 (tests perform 1st -6th August)

Information Supplied

Preparation of samples procedure

1. Preparation of reagents:

1.1)  6 emulsions/6 ANFO/ 4 EPS are prepared in the box.
- Emulsion: No 1 ~ No 6.
- ANFO: No.1 ~ No.6.
- EPS: No.1,2,4,5.

1.2) Emulsion samples should be weighed.

123456
117.8 g139.1 g80 g118.9 g139.4 g80 g

Other samples already weighed in our lab.  Only Emulsion samples perform this step.

2. Procedure

In a 100ml glass beaker, combine Emulsion, ANFO and EPS.  And mix the contents with spatula.

Sample No.Mixing Component
1Emulsion(1) + ANFO(1) + EPS(1)
2Emulsion(2) + ANFO(2) + EPS(2)
2Emulsion(3) + ANFO(3)
4Emulsion(4) + ANFO(4) + EPS(4)
5Emulsion(5) + ANFO(5) + EPS(5)
6Emulsion(6) + ANFO(6)

Testing

Samples 1 to 3 were prepared as per above in addition to a sample of ammonium nitrate to confirm reactive ground sample.
The samples were tested as per the AEISG code.
